You Are One Of Us

Your chance to say thanks in words and pictures by completing the form further down this page.

Mott The Hoople – You Are One of Us is a tribute book to one of rock music’s most loved bands from us, the best and most loyal fans in the world.

You Are One Of Us will be published this Autumn by Hit the North to coincide with the MottFest 2025 in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, on 3-4 October 2025. Several of the surviving members of the band, their families and their special guests are planning to celebrate the golden age of rock and roll with us all. Click here to book your tickets for the weekend.

We want your words & images

You Are One Of Us is our chance to say thank you to the Mott family with our very personal magical memories of a love affair that stretches back to 1969 and Guy Stevens’ original band and everything else that followed.

If you want to be in the book, simply send us your online word-and-image submissions and we’ll publish the definitive fans perspective, written by the fans for all the other fans and the surviving band, the crew and their families.

We’re after circa 100/400 words about what the band means to you plus your own relevant Mott-related images (that are your copyright) to accompany your words. They need to be high res print quality (300 dpi — basically a file of at least 3MB).

Our deadline for online submissions is Friday 1st August 2025 ... simply complete the form below to send your entry to us. There is a FAQ section below too giving you more details about the project. Click the black button below for my contribution guidelines. If you need to know anything else, email me here.

Cheers

FAQs

A tribute to Mott the Hoople, the world’s friendliest band, by the world’s greatest fans.

  • The book’s title is inspired by a Mott The Hoople song on the Mad Shadows album that captures the unique bond between the group and everyone who has followed them since 1969. Few groups managed to connect with their followers the way they did. Journalist and former Sea Divers fan club president Kris Needs has endearingly described Mott as the approachable face of rock, transforming it ‘into a thing we could reach out and touch’.

Publisher and co-editor Andrew Field previously edited and published Phil John’s We Rocked, You Rolled, a road crew’s diary of Mott The Hoople’s final European tour in 1974. The 2013 book sold out its print run online and at events and attracted positive press coverage and and reviews, one of whom said, ‘read it and be transported into a parallel universe, circa 1974. Very funny and a real eye-opener. I wish I'd been there!’

  • We are!! You Are One of Us is a fans’ reflection of our own Mott the Hoople lifetime journeys in words and pictures, our chance to say a big thank you for all the memories, not just with the original group but all the incarnations that followed from Mott and British Lions to numerous solo projects. Our concept is based on a model developed by Spenwood Books for the likes of Billy Bragg, Slade, Thin Lizzy and the Clash (marketed under the People’s History umbrella).

  • Simply complete the form below with added words and images!! And pre-order the book when it becomes available later in the summer.

  • Simple. We are after any image/s that you own that capture your love of Mott the Hoople from anytime since 1969 right up to the present moment.  Upload them via the form below and caption them too.

  • No worries. The internet broadens our horizons and shrinks our costs. Simply upload and send your words and images online.

  • Hit the North is Andrew Field’s micro-publishing vehicle for his and, currently, Mark Brumby’s books. Andrew also helped the legendary Phil John publish his We Rocked, You Rolled road crew diary of Mott’s final 1974 European tour. Andrew will be co-editing the book with fellow Mott fans David Crisfield and Keith Hollinshed.

  • The book is being published to coincide with the final together of the Mott family in the band’s self-proclaimed hometown in Ross on Wye and will be available over the 3-4 October 2025 weekend. Afterwards, it will be available on Amazon and online.

  • Hopefully we will have the book ready for pre-orders in August, when we will also confirm the various formats and their prices.
